LEADERS AND LOSERS

I love my church; I love the church globally as well. I believe that Jesus also loves the church, it is His bride.

In this day, where many have been hurt and deeply wounded by their church experience, the common retort is “what do you mean by ‘church?’”

I am not writing today to define “the church.”

As I have been listening to the heart of Father God, I have perceived that it is imperative to build. So many in the younger generation have taken on the role of deconstructing the “church” and its teachings.

Whether it is through YouTube, Facebook, Blogging, etc., everyday there are new voices that claim to be Rogue*, Brazen, or Riotous; which tear down what they see as false teachings and sometimes they are spot on! (*Yup, that one was me! My blog used to be RogueTheologian as I was going through a season of redefinition and I no longer go by that title. This title especially confused my European readers, but the definition of “rogue” in America is: No longer obedient, belonging, or accepted and hence not controllable or answerable; renegade)

Yet this tearing down movement has gained so much momentum that the question that I hear from God’s heart to this younger generation is “What are you building?”

“…the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down,” 2 Corinthians 10:8

“…that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority—the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.” 2 Corinthians 13:10

The Five-Fold ministry (See Eph. 4:11-13) is for building up, activating, and equipping the church. Many of this younger generation have been overly focused on correcting, rebuking, dismantling and deconstructing.

Some love to quote from Jeremiah 1:10 “See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” And then point out that twice as much tearing down happened in this verse, but you are not Jeremiah, and none of today’s five-fold ministers are living in the Old Covenant days.

When building a new structure in the spirit, it can be necessary to roll in with a bulldozer and tear down the old structure, but it is for the purpose of laying a new foundation and building a new, bigger, modern, effective, efficient and beautiful structure in the spirit.

If the younger generation can become Fathers of the next move of God in the earth and catch the Father’s heartbeat as their own, then they will be able to build and lead, otherwise they will become the Elder Brother (Luke 15) and live with a critical spirit and a heart of lack.

The Father is calling young leaders to push into His heart and ask Him to father you into being a father; we need more of them in the kingdom. Oh that He would give you the same love and passion that Jesus has for His Bride!

For the rest of us, if you have been lending your ear to young leaders that are not building and advancing God’s work in the earth, but instead are always correcting and criticizing, or if they are leading you away from healthy participation in Kingdom community, please turn your discernment back on!

Look for leaders that are building and get involved. The Kingdom doesn’t need any Monday Morning Quarterbacks.
